Hi! I am Linn, one of the doctoral researchers (DR9) of the Horizon LegumeLegacy Doctoral Network and a doctoral student at the Molecular Plant Biology group at ETH Zurich, supervised by Dr. Roland Kölliker and Prof. Bruno Studer.
Based in Zurich, Switzerland, my research will focus on the development of genetic methods and bioinformatic tools to monitor species composition and changes in genetic diversity in grasslands. I will work with plant DNA from the grasses, herbs and legumes sown in the grassland swards included in this project, and relate the changes in diversity to the performance of the final crop rotation. I will apply methods for DNA sequencing and genotyping by combining what I studied in my MSc. degree in Bioinformatics from Uppsala University, Sweden (2023) and my BSc. degree in Biotechnology from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (2021). I am excited to contribute to the central aim of LegumeLegacy to improve the self-sufficiency and sustainability of grasslands and follow-on crops by increasing the biodiversity and by including legumes. Legumes fix nitrogen, and the inclusion of legumes in grasslands can reduce the demand of synthetic nitrogen fertilisers in European grasslands.
